Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic candidate Phil Angelides could change dramatically based on a new, statewide public opinion poll of all gubernatorial candidates to be released here on Thursday. Results of the poll -- the first to ask voters who they want in a debate -- will be disclosed Thursday at 10 a.m. at the State Capitol (south steps). The poll, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, was commissioned by the Mexican American Political Association. Likely voters are asked in the poll who they would like to see in gubernatorial debates, and provides an in-depth response for each of the six candidates, testing for support by age, gender, income, employment, religion and ideology. MAPA is hosting the news conference Thursday, which will be attended by Green Party gubernatorial candidate Peter Camejo, the only Latino candidate for governor. Details will be provided at the news briefing, but MAPA said that the results are "surprising and unexpected," specifically regarding the opinions of the poorest and Democratic voters. The complete poll will be made available at the Capitol briefing.
